About Beavers

'PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO MASSIVE OVERSUBSCRIPTION BOTH MONDAY AND FRIDAY WAITING LISTS ARE CURRENTLY CLOSED TO NEW ADDITIONS. CHECK THIS PAGE FOR UPDATES'

Beaver Scouts are young people usually aged between 6 and 8 years old. They belong to the first and youngest Section in the Scouting family. We welcome girls as well as boys!

The Beavers are Cramond are very popular, so we run a waiting list, detailed below.  Young people join Beaver Scouts from the waiting list at some time after their 6th birthday when a space becomes available, at the start of the following school term.  They can move to the next Section, Cub Scouts, after their 8th birthday.

We have two beaver colonies at Cramond:

Beaver pointing

Monday Night Beavers

  • Meeting Place: Upper Hall
  • Meeting Time: 6.15pm - 7:15pm
  • Beaver Leader: Irene Campbell

Friday Night Beavers

  • Meeting Place: Upper Hall
  • Meeting Time: 6.00pm-7.00pm
  • Beaver Leader: Gordon McKirdy

Waiting lists

Waiting lists for both colonies are run by: Tara Paterson: waitinglist@cramond-scouts.org.uk.  The waiting list works as follows:
  • Children under five are recorded, but are not on the list
  • At age five, children who have been recorded are added to the tail of the list
  • Children joining the list aged over five are immediately added to the tail of the list

  • When a space in Monday or Friday Beavers becomes free, we work down the list from the head end to find the first child who is over six
  • If you have expressed a preference for just Monday or just Friday, we'll skip over your child if they don't match
  • We email or call you to check you still want the place, and then your child joins either Monday or Friday Beavers
